Playa Vista

Los Angeles, California

Client: Maguire Thomas Partners

Playa Vista has become one of the most dynamic districts in the Los Angeles Area. The Plan by Moule & Polyzoides is subdivided into six neighborhoods and three districts: the marina, the office campus, and the town center. Small parks with schools, civic and cultural facilities, and walkable corner retail provide the focus for each neighborhood. This project reintroduced mixed-use urbanism to a region hitherto defined by single-use development while setting a new bar for environmentalism. The Plan’s sustainable innovations include: the preservation and restoration of over 300 acres of critical wetlands; a recreational riparian corridor as a conduit for recycled gray water; subterranean magnetic cables to power electric transit; and infrastructure to support walking, bicycling, and public transit as the primary means of travel.
