Occidental College Master Plan

Los Angeles, CA

Client: Occidental College

Moule & Polyzoides’ plan for Occidental College establishes principles for architecture, landscape, historic preservation, transportation, and sustainability to guide the evolution of this 123-acre campus in the hills of northeast Los Angeles. Founded in 1887, this liberal arts college is embedded within a residential neighborhood within walking distance of two small commercial corridors. The institution’s goals for this 20-year master plan included promoting a more positive relationship to its neighbors, becoming more visible within the surrounding city, and managing a group of historic buildings by architect Myron Hunt. Anticipating the College’s future growth, the Plan adds nearly 600,000 square feet of new building area through sustainable infill strategies.
