The first project realized after the Moule & Polyzoides campus master plan, the LEED Gold-rated New College of Florida Academic Center Building defines its main quadrangle and demarcates the entrance to the campus. The program combines 36,000 square feet of offices, classrooms, common areas, and support spaces. The design is an organic synthesis of vernacular and contemporary design elements, such as a metal roof, masonry walls, and hurricane shutters. Sustainable strategies include covered balcony circulation, deeply shaded south- and west-facing arcades, natural light and ventilation in every room, and a rainwater collection system.
