by Stefanos Polyzoides (2013)
In a session at the CNU-A workshop for Eco El Paso, Stefanos discussed the universal principles of traditional urbanism and how, when applied specifically to different regions, they can provide distinct, beautiful and sustainable urban form. The American Desert Southwest is no exception to this rule. Its unique culture, climate, resources and politics have, over the centuries, produced memorable living places in balance with nature. Planning, design and development based on such precedents will surely enhance the character of the urban desert environment, the economy and the identity of the people of El Paso.
